Days of Knights 40th Anniversary

The Days of Knights games shop marks its 40th Anniversary of operation on Main Street in Newark, Delaware this fall with a series of special events and sales.  In October of 1981, The Days of Knights opened its doors for the first time. It was founded by Lee McCormick with the help and support of his friend John M. Corradin and about 20 other investors.  The following year, Corradin took over as the owner/manager of the game shop, a position he held until his untimely death in May of 2018.

The Days of Knights originally opened in the Newark Mini-Mall, but In 1996 the store and its game club moved to its present location at 173 East Main Street. The store was able to expand and thrive in the new location. The Days of Knights has built a reputation as a treasure trove for anyone who likes games and gaming. Over 3,000 different titles of board games, collectible card games, roleplaying games, miniatures and war games grace its shelves. Merchandise ranges from vintage Dungeons & Dragons adventures from the 1980’s to current hot sellers like Nemesis and Pokemon.

“John (Corradin) wanted The Days of Knights to be a center for the local gaming community, providing a safe and friendly environment to learn about and play Magic the Gathering, board games, and roleplaying games, and to celebrate fantasy and science fiction genres.  One way of honoring that legacy is with our annual events like the September 22nd “Bilbo’s Birthday Party” that celebrates the works of J. R. R. Tolkien,” according to Mica Corradin, Corradin’s widow and The Days of Knights’ current owner.

“To commemorate 40 years of serving our gaming customers, we’ve planned special activities and sales for every weekend in October,” according to Joe Brumfield, the manager of The Days of Knights. “One of the first things we did was hold a 40th Anniversary T-Shirt Design Contest in August, and we also designed a collectible pin and a leather Days of Knights dice tray for the occasion.  The new t-shirts, the pin, dice tray and a new DOK’s tote bag are now available” added Brumfield.

The winner of The Days of Knights’ 40th Anniversary T-Shirt Design Contest and a $250 gift certificate is Phoenix Woodrow, 16, a native Delawarean. His father was looking for a place to buy Magic cards for his little brother when he remembered The Days of Knights as a store he used to go to as a teenager.  He looked on DOK’s website, saw the design contest announcement, and suggested Woodrow enter. Other examples of Woodrow’s artwork can be seen on his Instagram account @rainloki_art.
